Nightly Visitor

It hasn't been that long since your arrival to this island, and everything is still new. Each day brings new surprises and more questions than answers, and there seems to be no easy way to find out anything about this world. What little outside contact you get from the radio or your Friday visitors certainly isn't helpful in any meaningful way.

Unfortunately, the questions will only continue to pile up. Because eventually, after a week or so of being on the island, anyone who stays out late will start to hear strange sounds outside. They're almost animalistic, in a way, but they will not resemble the cries of any animal that you might be familiar with. This is Something Else.

They're not close to the Town Hall though, and the sounds seem to be coming from the North, but that is about all you can get without further investigation. And investigation may be necessary, as the noises will return night after night, starting right at sunset and tapering off as the sun starts to rise. Whatever is out there, it's nocturnal. And it sounds desperate.

What will you do? Will you talk to others and make a plan? Will you try to search for the source of the strange noises? Will you look at day, or during the night? Or will you use the radio to call for advice?

You can also use this space to play out any prompt from the test drive meme, or anything else you may want to do.

Everyone can do a search and get some plot information once per character. This can be done either solo or in pairs, so there can be some overlap to make sure everyone gets a shot at getting plot information. If A and B form a search party at night, then that will count as both A and B's searching. A could then help C make a radio call and get some information that way, but B and C could not then subsequently do another search (as B and C would have been involved in a search somehow already).

This post will be open to investigating until May 24th, 2021. At that point, no further mod responses will be given. Even characters who app in after game start can come in and investigate, so long as it is before May 24th.

MEETING TIME!

[Cooking over an open fire isn't the easiest, especially when you only have raw ingredients to work with. But somehow, Rin does manage to whip up a decent dinner! It's fish, steamed vegetables, and boiled potatoes, but hey you work with what you have. Rin really is missing rice right about now though.

But when the food is done and everyone who's interested in eating comes over to the outside seating area of the Town Hall to eat, that's when Rin will speak up.]

You know, we've all been living here nearly a month already and we barely know each other. How about we do some kinda 'get to know you' talk?

[He pauses, and then a bit more sheepishly, he adds.]

If you guys wanna, I mean. Or we could talk about the weird noises outside at night too.

Uh, hi! I'm Supergirl. Uh, that's my super name, since I guess not everyone has supers where they're from. I'm not from Earth, but that's where I was living when I came here, just a less zombie-fied Earth with indoor plumbing. Uh... what do you guys want to know?

How come you use a 'super name'? Are you a real superhero?

[Comics exist in his world, though something something knockoff bland name superheroes like 'Rat Man' or something.]

Yeah! I mean, I'm just learning, but we've already had to do a lot of actual world-saving. Or city-saving, or friend's-impounded-plane saving since she parked it in a no-parking zone. It's a long story.

[Even if she's just learning, Rin is impressed nonetheless.]

And you must be a pretty special one, to have 'super' in your name like that.

Well, uh... I hope so. I don't always think so, but I'm doing my best. But the name was actually picked for me before I even started. See, uh, my cousin's called Superman, and he's really impressive. And really famous. So everyone just kind of assumed I'd be the same.

The sounds from the mainland? They sound like animals, but not anything I've ever heard before.

Oh, I'm Cyan. [He says, just as a general statement to anyone who doesn't know.]

I don't know if it's normal animals... I tried to check it out, and it was really creepy. Like something was watching us the whole time.

Like a predator?

I don't know. I couldn't see what it was.

Man, I dunno. But you're right, it doesn't sound like any animal I know. It must be something from this world.

The noises are coming from outside the islands. So long as it stays that way, it's not our problem.

My name is Faust. I don't mind sharing that, but I could care less about getting to know each other.

Wait, why not? We're going to live here until they can get us back, right?

That's exactly why. We'll return to our respective worlds sooner or later. We weren't even summoned here for any clear reason, so getting to know all of you is unnecessary.

You're making it sound less hopeful and more depressing. And shouldn't we at least be working together and trying to make this place livable? The people of this dimension were nice enough to give us a place to live in the first place, so we should be helping them out. Why not make friends?

You think it'll stay out? That might be what the nets are for, yeah?

I'd imagine so. ...Supergirl [that sure is a name] and I flew over to the mainland briefly, but we didn't see any signs of what was causing the noise. It didn't feel safe to investigate further.

The weird noises ain't comin' from these islands. 's across the sea. If yer eyesight's good enough ya can see some bloody marks, but not much else.

Do we need to go investigate? I mean, I want to know what those noises are, but I don't think they'll help us get home.

And they told us not to go off the island, so it's not like we can go over and look...

[Rin is absolutely thinking of going over and looking anyway.]

...maybe if a couple people go together we can find out what it is.
